Online Reputation Tips from Andy Beal on Newstalk ZB

Online reputation expert Andy Beal was a guest yesterday afternoon on Tech Tuesday with Danny Watson, offering some great online profile advice for businesses large and small. The team here at Bullet PR picked up on a few themes:

How important is it to have an online presence? The short answer: very. You must have an online presence in the places your customers hang out, and you must take part in the conversations happening online. This is your opportunity to shape the conversation by listening to their needs. These conversations are ignored at your peril.

There are relatively few rules about engaging online, but the most important is to talk with your audience, not at them. People want to connect – the mere fact that they’re online implies that enthusiasm. They need a place where they can connect with your business, and participating in the online realm is one more way for them to do it.

Improving rankings on Google is a multi-billion dollar industry, but there’s a few simple things you can do right away. Google looks for relevant, trusted content. When building a website it’s important to be extremely selective in choosing keywords. Andy mentioned Keyword Discovery as a tool that can help with this. Trust is built by having other credible sites linking back to yours. Working on these two fronts should appeal to the Google algorithms.

Come see Andy at the Social Media Junction next Monday and Tuesday for more tips.
